Box of Crayons

written at age 17

Hush

Never disturb the restful

Let them remain full of wonder

I wonder if we are born with our eyes open

Or if someone closes them

Do they pinch them shut?

fingertips on infant eyelids

or do we know

to

Never open our eyes

For painted dreams do not carry over

into the reality of a sullen world

Unless we color it ourselves
